Volunteers look on as HudsonAlpha co-founder Jim Hudson thanks them for their time and talents.

HudsonAlpha kicked off its Partners of Progress volunteer program in December 2009 and participants really gave the institute their all in 2010.

During the first full year of the program, volunteers put in 300 hours. That’s the equivalent of $6,000 in staff hours! They assisted with a multitude of activities and events, including Biotech 101 and 201, DNA Day, the Spring Benefit and the Tie the Ribbons luncheon. Volunteers also helped with packet assembly, tours, donor thank you calls and more.

To show their gratitude, members of HudsonAlpha’s external affairs team hosted a volunteer appreciation reception in late January. Attendees heard from Dr. O’Neal Smitherman, HudsonAlpha executive vice president, and Jim Hudson, HudsonAlpha co-founder, who thanked them for their time and talents.

The reception also gave the volunteers an opportunity to become better acquainted, not just with each other, but with HudsonAlpha researchers and administrators. There are currently 75 Partners of Progress. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, click here.

Thank you, volunteers: We appreciate all you do!
