HudsonAlpha is the cornerstone of the 153-acre CRP Biotech Campus and features 270,000 square-feet of laboratory, office and common areas. Currently, 22 for-profit companies lease space in the building, sharing ideas and common spaces with the institute’s not-for-profit researchers and administration.
The institute is both high tech and high touch. According to Mark Jensen with the design firm Cooper Carry, the institute is full of technology—with much of it visible—but the overall impression is one of warmth and comfort. The design incorporates tactile, natural materials such as stone, wood and water; beautifully landscaped garden spaces; generous natural light and great views. Energy-saving components used in design and construction reduce energy and water consumption by roughly 25 percent when compared to typical lab facilities. HudsonAlpha has a unique character unlike a generic lab or institutional building.
